托丽从小就显现了出众的音乐天分，性格恣意的她在13岁那年因为无法忍受传统钢琴演绎方式而离开学校，选择和父亲一起巡回驻唱的生活方式。1983年，托丽受新浪潮影响，开始把目光从钢琴转移到其它乐器和自己的声音特质上，取得了不小的成功，但随之而来的一场梦魇几乎毁了她——1984年洛杉矶，托丽在搭便车时遭到乐迷强1暴```这突如其来的沉痛打击，令阿莫斯停下了音乐创作的脚步```
也许有人会因此伤害一蹶不振，但她没有，因为她是托丽·阿莫斯。正如歌名一样，沉默经年，来到伦敦的托丽于91年推出了EP《Me And A Gun》，讲述的正是自己亲身遭遇的经历。歌中，她是那么的哀怨，内心的悲伤和凄凉让听者无不动容....；同年冬季的首张大碟《Little Earthquake》进占英国金榜第14名.
